Bees Knock Motormen out of London Senior Cup

Adam Silver27 Nov - 23:59

Brentford B knocked Redbridge out of the London Senior Cup with a 2-0 victory.

The Motormen hosted Brentford "B" in the 2nd Round of the London Senior Cup at a cold Techsoc.com stadium.

A much changed line up for Redbridge saw new signings David Danso and George Brady in their back line whilst Soumen Nandi returned from injury.

Brentford themselves had a youthful looking side after their Academy side had played Peterborough in the U21 Premier Development League just a day prior.

The Bees started the match on the front foot controlling play and looking the liveliest of the two sides especially through Ethan Laidlaw and trialist Caleb Redhead.

Redbridge first chance of note came through skipper Joseph Elliott who fired at goal but saw his effort fall straight into the hands of keeper Marley Tavazia.

Brentford contiued to dominate possesion winning the ball quickly although chances were few and far between , Redbridge coming closest through Elliott again when his long range free kick deflected off the Brentford wall and over the bar.

From a corner the hosts throught they had scored only to see the goal chalked off for offside.

Brentford then earnt themselves a penalty, a long pass upfield from Tavazia deflected through multiple players into the path of Redhead who was brought down in the box under the challenge of Danso.

The referee pointed to the spot undeterred by the arguments of the Redbridge players who thought the ball had been won fairly.

Up stepped Laidlaw to cooly slot the ball past Samuel Nwabuko in the Redbridge goal to give his side a lead which they took into the interval.

Into the second period where both sides showed good energy, Redbridge asking questions of Tavazia who had to fist away a dangerous corner before tipping away a dangerous free kick which looked to be heading into the far corner.

Brentford then came forrward for the first time this half, Laidlaw showing good pace to get into the box only to see his effort well saved by the feet of Nwabuko.

A ball into the box was then only partially cleared falling kindly to Ollie Shield who tried a curler which flew wide of the upright.

Nwbuko was then called upon to make a good stop before Caelan Avenell should have done better from close range but failed to get a decent connection on the ball.

on 81 minutes Brentford doubled their advantage. Laidlaw crossing into the middle finding Redhead who tapped home from close range via a deflection off keeper Nwabuko.

Redbridge had one final chance when substitute Jack Chawner fired a free kick on target but Tavazia stood firm and failed to be troubled.

Full time was then called , Redbridge huffed and puffed but overall it was a deserved victory for the Bees who move into the 3rd Round.
