Bank Holiday Monday saw Redbridge host Newmarket Town at the TechSoc.com Stadium in what was the first ever league meeting between the two sides.
Redbridge had lost their opening two league matches and were therefore looking for a strong performance, however they found themselves behind after just 3 minutes on the clock.
From the opening corner of the match Ryan Cole swung in a corner which was met by the head of Jose Santa De La Paz who had got in front of a defender. In what appeared slow motion the ball bounced down and seemed to just dribble across the goal line.
Redbridge came forward and with their first attempt on target Oscar Shelvey-Negus header was easily gathered by goalkeeper James Young.
The Newmarket goal scorer then rode a couple of challenges out wide showing good skill to win his side a corner.
On 17 minutes the home side were awarded a way back into the match when a reckless challenge inside the area saw Soumen Nandi crash to the floor, the referee in close proximity showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
Up stepped Solomon Ogunwomoju who took time with his run up but in doing so allowed Young to see where the ball was heading and was able to dive across to his right palming the ball to safety.
The away side then missed a glorious opportunity to double their lead, once again the lively Santa de La Paz did well and his cross found Prince Mutswunguma unmarked in the middle but he took a wild swing at the ball fortunately for the home missing the connection.
It was a costly miss as at the other end Redbridge did find the equalizer, a corner was swung in which Young could only partially clear allowing defender Olamiji Ayoola to scoop down low and head home for what was his first goal for the club.
A long Newmarket throw then caused panic in the Redbridge box and only for a last-ditch goal line clearance saving a certain goal.
The away side were however back in front and what a goal it was, a free-kick was awarded some 30 yards quickly taken by Ryan Cole who spotted Connor Wheatley off his line and executed it superbly finding the top corner with the Redbridge keeper flapping at thin air.
The away side were in the ascendency and had a good chance to further increase their lead, once again Santa De La Paz showed good pace to get the wrong side of Ayoola but credit to the Redbridge defender who got back quickly to distract him from shooting and the ball ended up the wrong side of the post.
The final attempt of the half saw James Barlow turn and shoot but the ball was straight into the path of Young.
The Motormen started the second period strongly and from a long Joseph Elliott throw Ogunwomoju leap high only to see his header crash against the cross bar.
All the play was with the home side who continued to push for the equalizer whilst Newmarket started to tire.
Ogunwomoju had a couple of opportunities, but the away backline was defending resolutely and making it difficult to break down.
With just five minutes remaining a ball was played down the left flank, Barlow ran onto it and with Young out of his goal the striker hit it first time with a lovely curling effort which nestled into the far corner.
Just three minutes later and the remarkable turnaround was complete, substitute Abs Conten-Thompson crossed from the right and Barlow
again was in the right place getting in front of his market to tap home from close range.
Newmarket unsurprisingly were in shock and their frustration boiled over in the final moments as Andy Ballester received a red card for a late challenge before substitute Isaac Maynard was shown a second yellow apparently for some verbal’s and was shown his marching orders.
