Redbridge made the New Year's Day visit to Suffolk to face Newmarket Town.
On the back of 3 consecutive defeats the Motormen fancied their chances against a side in the bottom four and whom have only registered one victory in their last 14 matches.
A changed starting line up from the defeat at Brentwood Town saw Rodney Botuli and Tendai Quamina enter the fray whilst joint manager Joey May added some experience to a youthful bench.
A good start by the visiting time saw them with a big penalty shout as Quamina was forced off the ball in the box under a heavy challenge but the referee whom was in close proximity waved away any appeals.
Moments later and poor defending from Newmarket gifted Fotsing Pitoula Wabo with the ball, he did well to create space for himself before firing in a shot which beat goalkeeper James Young only to rebound back off the upright.
The home side then were presented with a good opportunity due to Redbridge's own making after a short kick out from Samuel Nwabuko was cut out by Jordan Foster who drove into the box only to shoot wide from a tight angle.
Ayo Odukoya was then ever so close to getting on the end of a superb cross from Malachi Napa but the ball just evaded him at the far post.
Quamina was then almost on the end of a Napa through ball however Young was quickly off his line to clear the danger.
The good start by Redbridge was then undone as Newmarket went and took the lead, a mislaid pass fell to Foster who came forward before putting over a cross finding the unmarked James Moore who unmarked was able to leap and direct his well placed headed past Nwabuko at the far post.
Newmarket spurned on by the goal came forward, Nwabuko had to be alert to palm away a shot from Moore who now had a taste for goal. They soon doubled their advantage, a ball was played out wide to Moore who although looked offside continued his run before crossing into the box looking for Isaac Maynard , his little flick goalwards was pushed away by Nwabuko however fell kindly at the feet of Tom Unwin who made no mistake from close range scoring on his debut.
Redbridge were now being put under pressure as Moore and then James Chivers both spurned efforts but just on the stroke of half time it was 3 nil , skipper Joseph Elliott took too long to clear and was disposed by Oscar Dean who then charged down at goal before despatching emphatically.
After being overrun in midfield they changed formation for the second period and almost made an immediate response as Quamina saw his effort well saved at the feet of Young.
Odukoya and Pitoula Wabo then had opportunities as the away side showed a good early reaction as they looked for a way back into the game.
Further chances came as Quamina again was denied by a goal line defensive clearance before Elliott headed wide from a Napa cross.
Redbridge then turned to the bench as May came on for his first appearance in 20 months followed by the introduction of Wesley Gomes dos Santos.
Newmarket who had been relatively quiet since the break then came forward for the first time , Foster played in substitute Clinton Frank who fired well over the bar.
Redbridge looked most lively down the right through Gomes Dos Santos who looked lively since entering the fray, he deserved a goal after a brilliant solo run taking on 3-4 players before he flicked the ball past Young only to be denied by a defender clearing off the line.
Newmarket were determined to keep a clean sheet and defended well under some late pressure to see the match out and pick up a valuable win and three points.
Redbridge now need to dust themselves down and prepare for the visit of title chasing Bury Town on Saturday.
