On a cold and very wet night at the Oakside the Motormen hosted their former tenants and bottom of the table Barkingside with the home side looking for their first home league win of the season whilst Barkingside were still searching for that elusive first three points.

Redbridge had Chico Ramos still in goal replacing the injured Lewis Greene whilst returning to the side was one of their regulars from last season in Remi Nelson whilst captain Vinny Murphy was making his 100th appearance for the club.

The opening chance fell to the home side when DJ Adelekan collected a pass from Samuel Phillips and he looked to curl an effort into the far corner, but his shot was always rising.

The first goal of the evening came after 11 minutes when poor defending saw the ball passed straight into the feet of Michael Ogboin and he made no mistake as rifling home past his old club.

Barkingside then had a spell of pressure which almost resulted in an equaliser as Darnell Goather-Braithwaite found himself in on goal however Ramos saved well.

It should have then been a second for Ogboin as he ran onto a perfectly timed ball from Phillips and with just the keeper to beat his shot was well stopped by Mikkel Breckenridge before the danger was cleared.

Ernest Okoh then made a powerful run down the left crossing into the middle which was met on the volley by Akwasi Marfo which flashed just wide.

At the other end Murphy crossed finding Ogboin who connected at the far post but could only see the ball dropped the wrong side of the post.
Okoh then had a good chance firing wide with Ramos at full stretch before Nick Reynolds headed wide from a good position as chances went begging for the away team.

The game was becoming stretched with both sides creating chances and trying their luck from distance on the wet surface.

Coming out for the second half and just a goal down Barkingside would have felt they were still very much in the game however just three minutes in and the home side had doubled their advantage.

Larrry Asare used his pace down the right before his cross was met by Ogboin to get his second of the evening.

Barkingside then had a good penalty shout when Okoh firstly saw his shot well saved by Ramos before he then collected the follow up before falling to the ground under the challenge from the goalkeeper however the referee in a good position waved play on

Reynolds then spurned a great chance heading wide unmarked before at the other end only the cross bar denied Ogboin from his hat trick.

Murphy now playing in a more forward position was finding space and he went for glory trying a shot when he had team mates better positioned unmarked in the middle.

Barkingside were now on the back foot as Redbridge continued to press and it was no surprise that they scored again as Murphy found Asare who made no mistake.

Both Murphy and Asare had further chances to increase the score line however was denied before full time eventually was called on proceedings.

Barkingside had chances throughout, but the Motormen did enough to finally secure that much needed home win
